Patent Published: A New Era for Monitoring, Science, Decision Making

[Dartmouth, Canada] — eOceans is thrilled to announce the publication of a groundbreaking patent by founder and CEO Dr. Christine Ward-Paige. This invention marks a significant leap forward in automating data analysis and publication processes, revolutionizing how data are continuously updated, analyzed, and disseminated to inform smarter decisions.

"After more than 12 years of ideation, energy, and overcoming many challenges, seeing this patent published is both exhilarating and terrifying,” said Dr. Ward-Paige. “It represents the culmination of years of creativity, sleepless nights, and a deep love for our planet, driven by a determination to create a better future for the next generations."

Unlike traditional, static reports and publications, this system enables dynamic, transparent, ongoing assessments.

Dr. Ward-Paige said “My favorite example is a 'progress report' (see image below for the example) on a very important species —Atlantic Salmon — in a tiny area of the Bay of Fundy. It was published by DFO in 2021. But, the most recent data point was from 2015—that’s at least six years out of date!”. She asked “How can informed decisions and investments be made about such important species when everything is so out of date?”.

She continued, “With this new system, the report could be published today with data from today. Better yet, it could seamlessly scale to cover the inner Bay of Fundy, the entire Bay of Fundy, all of Nova Scotia, or even the full distribution of Atlantic salmon.”

Dr. Ward-Paige recognized that this approach might not work for all fields of science, Dr. Ward-Paige notes, “but it holds tremendous potential for many areas of research I've been involved in—where timely, scalable, and transparent updates are critical to making informed decisions.”

The implications are vast: researchers, policymakers, and organizations can now rely on a dynamic framework that supports transparency and accountability.

eOceans invites anyone interested in learning more about this innovative system to connect and explore its potential applications.
