People-Powered Science.

Make a difference every time you explore—every observation helps tell the ocean’s story. From sharks and rays to pollution and boats, eOceans connects it all.

*Currently, our citizen science projects focus on ocean ecosystems—your location must match a marine or coastal area.

We’ve done a lot together, already!

Scuba divers and snorkelers have already shared over 1.6 million observations — including 146,000 shark and ray sightings from 14,400 sites across 38 countries.

We’ve analyzed these data to guide policy, contributing to the protection of 19.2 million km² of ocean and securing protections for over 100 shark and ray species.

Zeros count too.

  • Large colourful fish on a reef.

    Species

Log any species, with their number, health (dead, alive, injured) and behaviour. This can be used, for example, to track trends in biodiversity.

  • Aerial image of 4 floating surfers.

    Social values

Log any activity that is using the space — this can be used, for example, to document the socio-economic value of these spaces.

  • A bunch of colour pieces of plastic lined up on a beach.

    Threats

Log any threats — like plastic pollution, oil spills, noise, etc. This may be used, with the Species and Social values, to examine relationships between them.

Every observation counts — without the risk.

Built by the scientists behind projects like the Great Fiji Shark Count, eShark Thailand with Shark Guardian, eManta, 100 Million Sharks Die Every Year, and global Shark Sanctuary Evaluations, eOceans is your all-in-one app for citizen science and research—working in real-time.

Maximum impact: Join global projects like eShark, eManta, eSeaTurtle, eJellyfish, and more—logging your sightings in real-time from anywhere in the ocean. Log once, and your observations are automatically shared with all the projects you’ve joined—no need to log more than once.

You control your data: Unlike paper logs, emails, phone hotlines, or other ‘FREE’ apps that collect and sell your data, when you log in eOceans, you own your data and decide who gets to use it—because no one wants to log a plant or animal for it to be poached by someone after.

eOceans: Built for collaboration. Built for impact. Built for you.

Mission: Future planet and society thrives.

Past: Planet thrived

Future: Planet thrives

Not long ago, lobsters crowded the shore, cod were so dense you could "walk across their backs," and sharks and whales could be spotted “anywhere at anytime”. The same can not be said today.

Our mission is to drive data-powered decisions that protect and restore planetary health and value. We enable collaboration across organisations, stakeholders, rightsholders, and decision-makers—uniting efforts to guide us back to a thriving planet.

“eOceans empowers us to optimize our data collection by engaging dive centres, resorts, and local communities. By maximizing our field time, we can focus on gathering insights while eOceans seamlessly manages the data processing and analysis.”

It all starts with your question. Whether you're diving, boating, fishing, or doing science, log any species, threats, and social values in real-time—eOceans gets you there faster, easier, and with greater precision.
